As of 2019, women and people of color make up a very small percentage of inventors on patents issued in the US, at approximately 12% and 1.7% respectively. These disparities in patent inventorship surpass even those in scientific authorship, and bring with them significant economic implications.

About our speakers: Intellectual property lawyer Stephen Sullivan, JD, of Schwabe, Williamson, and Wyatt will lead the discussion, joined by OHSU members Carmem Pfeifer, DDS, PhD, and Ruchi Thanawala, MD, MS, to discuss the barriers to inclusive invertorship and strategies to foster more equity in patenting.
